An illuminated revolving sculpture at Lincoln Center Plaza exploring the 700 languages currently spoken in New York, the most linguistically diverse city on the planet.
The work responds to Wade Davis’s observation: ‘Every language is an old growth forest of the mind, a watershed of thought, an entire ecosystem of spiritual possibilities. It's haunting to realise that half of the languages of the world are teetering on the brink of extinction’. free public performances took place throughout December 2022 by singers in Zulu, Serbian, Ukrainian, Georgian, Spanish and mandarin.
Commissioned by moet & chandon and made in collaboration with the endangered language alliance.
